The Economist. (2019). The future of work: is your job safe? | The Economist. In YouTube.

0.10-0.28: The Economist video asserts that the development of technology is changing
the world of work beyond all understanding by providing innovative job chances. The
digital age of industrial automation is amazing, but also it is eroding the rights of
workers.
0.32-0.43: The video provides that the present automation of industries can result in 45%
of current jobs getting replaced. Thus, most workers fear the uncertain dystopian jobless
future. However, the video asserts that the future is a collaboration between humans and
automated technologies, and this perception overblows the perception the joblessness
anxieties.
0.45-3.33: The video further provides that the way individuals react to the great current
developing world of occupation will help shape our communities for generations to
come. The first to the third minute of the video interested me. Within the length of the
video, the Economist provides that work is where WIFI network is for some people. Out
throughout these people’s travels, they can hold down their job as they are digital
nomads. Currently, most people can work remotely worldwide as digital nomads moving
around frequently due to the recent advances in digital technology without comprising
their carriers. The Estonia state will introduce a unique visa that enables digital nomads

to reside within the state for a year. Thus, with other countries expected to follow suit,
people predict that a billion location independent workers will increase by 2035.
4.20-6.15: In the middle of the twentieth century, many workers in the rich world had
high expectations to stay in their occupational areas for life. However, frequent job
changes have been usual as 70% of professionals around the globe do their work
remotely. Such seismic transformations have been resulting in continual reinventions of
the traditional workplace or office attendance.
6.30-9.10: The video asserts that technology has also changed the way people work and
live in poorer states. For example, some educated residents in these countries can be hired
by companies like the global gig economy, which pays workers for handling some
freelance tasks despite living in local locations. Therefore, technology has facilitated the
breaking of white-collar jobs done in wealthier countries into individual tasks advertised
and distributed to remote workers scattered across the world.
Questions
1.How is the gig economy viewed in wealthier countries?
2.What examples of technologies can be used gather data about how employees spend
their hours at work?
