Due process and crime control
The close relationship between law, policy, and politics has been recognized since ancient times. Our country’s founders imagined a society in which crime control is balanced with due process protections for individuals. Two models of the justice process are the Due Process Model and the Crime Control Model.
Parker indicates that there are two types of problems that need to be addressed in any model of the criminal justice process. The first is what the rules are, and the second is how the rules are going to be implemented. Describe a current criminal justice event from the view of both models. Compare what the rules of both models would be regarding that event and how they would be implemented.
